Silly & Strange Magic Items
A work in progress.
Reginald
A ruby-pommelled bastard sword in an ornate scabard made to look as if a (somewhat goofy-looking) wolf was clutching the blade -- inscribed on the scabard is a poem in Old Common which reads "Rolo eber gruin, i nalte alcum lefra duin" (roughly, "My might is great, but till you need me, you must wait"). The scabard is intelligent and telepathic, while the sword gives a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls when wielded. Unfortunately, the scabard refuses to allow the sword to be drawn for anything but a "worthy foe" (i.e. when the PCs are already completely screwed).1
Ring of El-Totsira
A thick silver ring with a design of an amorphous face. Depending on which finger the ring is placed, the face changes to adopt an expression of (thumb) sorrow, (index) perplexity, (middle) amusement, (ring) tenderness, or (pinky) panic.
- If the ring is worn on the thumb, the game is a drama game;
- On the index finger, a mystery game;
- On the middle finger, a comedy game;
- On the ring finger, a romance game;
- On the pinky finger, a horror game.
Footnotes
Idraluna Archives' Three-sentence Hexes feels like the kind of post that will go on to be considered seminal, and I already want to see how many different contexts I can apply the three-sentence description to. Three sentences is enough to give one sentence each to Landmark, Hidden, Secret or a feature, a desire, and a twist.↩
